Amarnath Yatra resumes after six-day weather suspension as Kashmiris bear the ecological cost of an occupation they did not choose

The Amarnath Yatra has resumed after a six-day suspension due to severe weather conditions across the pilgrimage route, with authorities declaring the routes safe for the resumption of pilgrim movement. The hiatus followed flash floods and landslides that devastated communities, killed multiple people, and destroyed homes and infrastructure across Indian-controlled Kashmir.
Kashmir Conflict states what the juxtaposition between the Yatra's resumption and the ongoing flood devastation makes plain. The Kashmiri communities worst affected by the floods live in areas where the Indian regime has conducted illegal mining operations, carried out extensive excavations for military and road infrastructure, cleared forest cover, and pursued resource extraction projects that have collectively degraded the territory's natural resilience to extreme weather events.
