APHC calls for Kashmir-wide shutdown on 5 August to mark sixth anniversary of India's full annexation

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference has called for a complete shutdown across Indian-controlled Kashmir on 5 August 2026, marking six years since the Indian regime completed its full annexation of Kashmir on 5 August 2019 through the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A. The APHC states that the day must be observed as a black day, a day of resistance and refusal to normalise what the Indian regime enacted in the dead of night, under a communications blackout, with thousands of Kashmiris imprisoned as a precaution before the announcement was even made.
The abrogation of Article 370 and 35A did not merely remove constitutional provisions. It completed the legal architecture for the settler colonisation of Kashmir, opening the territory to unrestricted land acquisition, domicile settlement, and demographic restructuring by Indian nationals. It accelerated a programme of ethnic and cultural cleansing that Kashmir Conflict has documented against the criteria of the UN Genocide Convention, Raphael Lemkin's foundational framework, and the Genocide Watch risk model as meeting the established criteria for the structures of genocide.
5 August 2019 was not a constitutional amendment. It was the moment the Indian regime dropped the pretence of a special status it had already spent decades hollowing out, and completed the annexation of an occupied people's land in plain sight. Six years on, the shutdown call is an act of documented historical memory. Kashmir Conflict will observe it accordingly.
