BJP Pulwama district president booked for extorting Kashmiri worker and threatening him with PSA

Pulwama Police have registered a case against BJP Pulwama district president Showkat Gayoor following a complaint by Mohammad Yaseen Ganie of Suthsoo BK Pora, Budgam, alleging sustained extortion, intimidation, vehicle obstruction, and harassment connected to legitimate soil extraction and transportation work being carried out for a Gurudwara Parbandhak in Barthana, Pulwama.
Ganie states that Gayoor repeatedly demanded 5 lakh rupees (£39,000) in exchange for not disrupting the work, with a prior payment of 54,000 rupees (£4,200) already alleged to have been extracted under pressure. When workers questioned the obstruction on 8 August 2026, Gayoor allegedly threatened them with PSA detention, a draconian law allowing imprisonment for up to two years without charge.
That a BJP district president in Kashmiri occupied territory allegedly weaponised the PSA as an extortion threat is not a surprise. The PSA has been used to silence, imprison, and intimidate Kashmiris for decades. That its threat value is now being deployed by BJP officeholders for personal financial gain is a precise illustration of what the Indian regime's legal infrastructure in Kashmir has become: a tool available to those with the right political connections to use against anyone who stands in their way.
