CASO launched in Nowshera sector as gunfire heard along LoC and Indian forces establish overnight cordon

Indian forces launched a cordon and search operation along the Line of Control in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri after troops at a forward location observed suspicious movement on the evening of 27 August 2026. An alert was sounded across the area, and multiple gunshots were subsequently heard, with it unclear whether the firing came from one side or both. A cordon was established overnight, with a detailed search operation launched in the early hours of 28 August.

Nowshera sits within the broader Rajouri-Poonch Pir Panjal belt that has been the site of continuous and sustained Indian forces operations throughout 2026, from Operation Sheruwali's forty-plus days of failure to repeated CASO launches across Surankote, Mendhar, and Manjakote. Suspicious movement along the LoC in this sector, followed by gunfire, is a serious development in a frontier zone already operating at elevated tension amid the Indian regime's broader military build-up.
