CIK arrests two more Kashmiris for social media posts calling for Kashmir's freedom as criminalisation of political expression continues

Counter Intelligence Kashmir has arrested two Kashmiri men following searches conducted on 8 August 2026 across multiple locations in the Kashmir Valley in connection with FIR No. 03/2023 registered at Police Station CIK Srinagar under Sections 505 and 153-A of the IPC and Sections 13 and 18 of the UAPA. Those arrested on 9 August have been identified as Mehran Qazi, son of Atta Mohammad Qazi, resident of Hiller Shahbad, Dooru, Anantnag, and Babar Hamid Dar, son of Abdul Hamid Dar, resident of Chankan, Sopore.
The Indian regime alleges they posted anti-national and radical content online. Kashmir Conflict states what anti-national means in this context: content that calls for Kashmiri freedom and criticises the Indian occupation. That is the definition the Indian regime applies. Expressing support for self-determination on social media is, for the Indian regime's legal apparatus, a UAPA offence. Two more Kashmiris are in custody for saying what the occupation does not want said. The phones have been seized. The posts have been noted. The men are in cells. The occupation's information war against its own population continues.
