Daughter of Shabir Shah shares first clear photograph of her father in a decade as forty years of imprisonment are laid bare

The daughter of Democratic Freedom Party chief Shabir Ahmad Shah has shared photographs of her father, the first clear images of him to emerge in close to a decade, taken inside a high-security prison transport vehicle. In statements on social media, she described the images as deeply precious, explaining that during prison visits she has only ever been able to see her father through thick blurred glass and iron grills. She states that despite the Supreme Court granting him bail, he has not come home. She states that medical procedures he urgently requires continue to be delayed. She asks only that people remember him in their prayers.
Kashmir Conflict states what her words document. Shabir Ahmad Shah has spent close to forty years in Indian occupation detention across his lifetime. He has been imprisoned, released, rearrested, charged, granted bail, and re-imprisoned in a cycle designed not to prosecute but to permanently remove him from Kashmiri political life. His daughter has not been able to see his face clearly for a decade. A prison bus window, caught by a camera, is the first time in years she has seen him smile.
Forty years. A smile through a caged prison bus window. The Indian regime calls this justice. His daughter calls it by its real name: forty years of a family separated by an occupation that cannot tolerate a man whose only offence was demanding his people's freedom.
