DFP tells Omar Abdullah the Kashmir dispute did not end in 1947, did not end in 2019, and has not ended today

The Democratic Freedom Party has responded sharply to comments made by installed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah asserting that Jammu and Kashmir's accession to India in 1947 was the right decision and suggesting that the Kashmir dispute has effectively been settled.
DFP spokesman Advocate Arshad Iqbal states that Omar Abdullah should confront the historical record in its entirety rather than selectively quoting from it for political convenience. He states that the 1947 accession neither represented the collective will of the Kashmiri people nor can it override the UN Security Council resolutions on self-determination that remain on the international record. He reminds the Chief Minister that members of his own family have, at different points in history, questioned the political decisions surrounding 1947 and their consequences, making his current presentation of those decisions as final and beyond question a selective reading of his own family's complicated political legacy.
The DFP asks Omar Abdullah why, if the dispute is settled, he does not speak with equal urgency about Kashmiri political leaders imprisoned in Indian jails. Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Masarrat Aalam Butt, and Aasiya Andrabi, the DFP states, are sitting in cells while the Chief Minister declares the dispute resolved. The DFP's conclusion is direct: the Kashmir dispute did not end in 1947, did not end in 2019, and has not ended today. As long as Kashmiris are denied their internationally recognised right to self-determination, no Chief Minister's statement makes it otherwise.
