Elderly Kashmiri woman killed by JCB in Ganderbal as questions arise over who was operating it and why

An elderly Kashmiri woman was killed in the Ganderbal area after being struck by a JCB excavator during road construction or related activities. She was declared dead following the incident. An investigation has been initiated.
Kashmir Conflict states the context this incident requires. JCB excavators in Indian-controlled Kashmir have become closely associated in the public mind with one function: the demolition of Kashmiri homes, businesses, and structures under the Indian regime's Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan, anti-encroachment operations, and collective punishment campaigns. Over 63 structures have been demolished across the territory since April 2026 under the campaign alone. The question of who was operating this particular machine, for what project, under whose authority, and what safety measures were in place for the civilian population in the area is not incidental. A Kashmiri woman is dead, struck by a piece of heavy equipment operating in a territory where such machinery is routinely deployed in service of the occupation's infrastructure and demolition agenda. That context must be part of how the investigation is assessed.
