The Indian regime has conducted its 80th Independence Day celebrations across Indian-controlled Kashmir on 15 August 2026. Unelected Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha hoisted the Indian flag at Lok Bhavan. Installed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah unfurled the Tricolour at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar before an audience assembled for the occasion.

Civil servants were once again under compulsory attendance orders. Those who failed to appear face documented consequences to their employment. Flags were distributed and placed in people's hands. The crowds in attendance were assembled, not gathered.

Omar Abdullah used the occasion to reiterate his demand for statehood restoration. He hoisted the flag of the country that stripped his territory of its autonomy, addressed a crowd that was ordered to be there, and called it a commitment to Kashmiri rights. Mehbooba Mufti issued a statement calling for meaningful freedom and constitutional guarantees on Independence Day, while her party's entire history in government provided the cover that made their removal possible.

Kashmir has shown what it looks like when Kashmiris gather willingly. Hundreds of thousands for Burhan Wani. Millions for their resistance. Those crowds needed no orders, no threats, no flags thrust into unwilling hands. The contrast between those gatherings and what filled Bakshi Stadium today does not require explanation. It requires only honest eyes.
