India gets thousands of Kashmiris onto the streets with flags. Most can tell you exactly what it cost to put them there.

For the first time, the Indian regime has succeeded in mobilising what it presents as thousands of Kashmiris for Tiranga rallies and flag-hoisting events across Indian-controlled Kashmir ahead of 15 August 2026. The images are being distributed widely by Indian regime media as evidence of Kashmiri participation in Indian national celebrations.
Kashmir Conflict states what those images do not show. Civil servants across Indian-controlled Kashmir were explicitly ordered to attend or face disciplinary consequences. Government employees who asked why they were being directed to participate were told their attendance was mandatory. Flags were distributed and placed in people's hands. Financial incentives, including payments and food, have been openly documented and attested in previous years as mechanisms used to fill these events. The crowds that appeared were not spontaneous. They were managed.
Kashmir remembers what spontaneous Kashmiri crowds look like. Hundreds of thousands who poured onto the streets for Burhan Wani, who walked miles to his funeral through curfew and gunfire, who flooded the roads for their martyred resistance fighters year after year, not because anyone paid them or threatened their employment, but because they chose to. Compare those crowds to what the Indian regime has assembled with mandatory orders, job threats, and incentives, and the propaganda is visible to anyone willing to look at it honestly. The occupation has not won Kashmiri hearts. It has temporarily borrowed Kashmiri bodies for a photograph.
