Indian Army troops opened fire along the Line of Control in the Tarkundi forward area of Rajouri district late on the night of 18 July 2026 following the alleged detection of suspicious movement in the area. The Indian regime alleges that fire was returned from across the LoC, resulting in an exchange of small arms fire. No casualties have been confirmed. The situation had stabilised by the time of reporting.

The Indian regime alleges the exchange was initiated by movement from across the border. Kashmir Conflict notes that the Rajouri LoC sector has been the site of sustained Indian forces activity in recent months, including Operation Sheruwali's forty-plus-day failure, the GOC and Northern Command reviews of the Rajouri theatre, and fresh CASOs in Thanamandi. The Indian regime's characterisation of all activity along this stretch of the LoC as externally initiated warrants the same scrutiny applied to its other operational narratives in the district.
