Indian forces raid over 20 Jamaat-e-Islami linked homes in Sopore under UAPA as crackdown on banned organisation intensifies

Indian regime forces conducted searches across more than 20 residential properties in the Sopore area of Baramulla district on 9 August 2026, targeting homes linked to individuals associated with the Jamaat-e-Islami Kashmir. The searches were carried out under provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act in connection with an ongoing investigation into a case registered by Sopore Police. Electronic devices and other materials have been seized. Further details are awaited.
The Jamaat-e-Islami Kashmir has been banned by the Indian regime since February 2019. Since the ban, its members and those associated with them have faced a sustained campaign of raids, arrests, property seizures, and PSA detentions across Indian-controlled Kashmir. Twenty or more homes searched in Sopore in a single day marks another significant escalation in the Indian regime's campaign to eliminate every trace of an organisation that has been one of the most deeply rooted institutions in Kashmiri civil and religious society for decades. The Indian regime does not ban and raid the JeI because it is a security threat. It does so because it is an organised, credible, and independent Kashmiri institution that the occupation cannot control.
