Indian regime arrests Kashmiri in Handwara and attributes him to Hizbul Mujahideen in rare departure from standard LeT label

Indian forces have arrested Manzoor Ahmad Bhat of Kruhmura, Handwara, Kupwara district, alleging he was operating as a hybrid resistance member linked to Hizbul Mujahideen. A Chinese-made pistol, two magazines, and 16 rounds of ammunition are alleged to have been recovered from him during a joint operation by Handwara Police, 21 Rashtriya Rifles, and 92 Battalion CRPF. The Indian regime states he is an ex-militant previously arrested in two prior cases.
Kashmir Conflict notes what this attribution represents. The Indian regime's standard formula attributes virtually every resistance arrest to LeT, TRF, or PAFF, all of which it simultaneously labels Pakistani fronts. In this case, the attribution is Hizbul Mujahideen, one of the oldest and most deeply rooted indigenous Kashmiri resistance organisations. The change is notable. HM is not a Pakistani organisation in the way the Indian regime attempts to portray TRF and PAFF. Its existence cannot be explained away as foreign conspiracy. Arresting a Kashmiri and attributing him to HM is, for the Indian regime, an inconvenient reminder that indigenous Kashmiri resistance predates, extends beyond, and cannot be reduced to the Pakistani boogeyman narrative it has spent decades constructing.
