Indian regime stages wrestling tournament in Bhaderwah with Indian, Nepali, and Bhutanese competitors as bread and circuses strategy meets Kashmiri reality

Indian forces have organised a wrestling tournament in Bhaderwah, Doda district, with participants from India, Nepal, and Bhutan attending the event. The Indian regime frames the tournament as a community engagement initiative promoting sporting culture and normalcy across the region.
Bread and circuses. The Roman strategy of keeping a restless population docile through entertainment and spectacle has a long history among occupying powers, and the Indian regime has deployed its own version of it consistently across Indian-controlled Kashmir, through festivals, tournaments, tourism campaigns, and cultural events presented as evidence of peace and integration.
The strategy has not worked in Kashmir. It has not worked across nearly four decades of overt resistance and over seventy years of occupation. The same Bhaderwah district where this tournament is being held was the site of Aarif Hussain's killing by Indian forces less than a month ago, an internet blackout, and days of protests that required restrictions and force to suppress. A wrestling match with Nepali competitors does not change what happened in Bhaderwah last month. It does not change what Kashmiris know about why Indian forces are there. Kashmir has always seen through the spectacle. It continues to resist regardless of what entertainment the occupation places in front of it.
