Successive and unending power cuts continue to plague communities across Indian-controlled Kashmir, with outages lasting multiple hours daily affecting homes, hospitals, businesses, and educational institutions across the territory. This is not a shortage of generating capacity. Kashmir's rivers and elevation produce hydroelectric power at a scale that could far exceed the territory's own consumption several times over. The Chenab, the Jhelum, and their tributaries drive plants generating thousands of megawatts. The Zojila tunnel was just inaugurated to secure better access. New dams in Kishtwar are under construction.
The power leaves Kashmir. It feeds India's Northern Grid, powering Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. Kashmiri homes sit in the dark for hours daily while the rivers beneath them generate electricity that the Indian regime exports to Indian cities. The Indian regime alleges it is developing Kashmir's infrastructure. Kashmiris state plainly what they see: their water powers India, their land is sold to settlers, their trees are felled for military roads, and they sit in the dark. That is not development. It is extraction, dressed in the language of administration.
