Kashmir's media has been reduced to an occupation mouthpiece. That too is what normalcy looks like.

A glance at the media outlets permitted to operate in Indian-controlled Kashmir reveals what the Indian regime's management of the information environment has produced. Publications that once reported ground realities, however imperfectly, have been reduced to platforms that lead with Indian Army commendations, profile Indian forces personnel as community heroes, and frame the occupation's administrative announcements as development milestones. Critical coverage of Indian regime conduct, extrajudicial killings, property seizures, PSA detentions, and religious suppression, appears rarely if at all, and when it does it is hedged, distanced, and stripped of the context that would make it meaningful.
This is not accidental. The Indian regime has spent years dismantling independent Kashmiri journalism through accreditation withdrawal, advertising dependency, UAPA charges against reporters, the imprisonment of editors, and the systematic intimidation of anyone willing to write the truth. What remains is what survives that process. Publishers imprison and journalists who challenge the occupation are booked under draconian laws, whilst those who praise it are given access, resources, and protection. The result is a media landscape that functions as the occupation's public relations arm while calling itself a free press. This is the democracy, freedom, and normalcy the Indian regime claims to have brought to Kashmir. It is visible in every headline that praises the forces that are simultaneously demolishing Kashmiri homes, blinding Kashmiri children, and filling Kashmiri jails.
