Mirwaiz calls out Indian regime's ecological war on Kashmir as reckless development destroys Himalayan environment

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq took to the pulpit at Jama Masjid on 28 August 2026 and delivered a direct assessment of the Indian regime's ecological assault on Kashmir, stating that reckless and unplanned development has devastated the Himalayan ecology of Indian-controlled Kashmir, destroying wildlife habitats, polluting rivers, degrading wetlands, and accelerating the environmental collapse of one of the world's most sensitive ecological zones.
The Mirwaiz states that the Indian regime's infrastructure projects, road construction across fragile mountain terrain, illegal mining, dam projects on Kashmiri rivers, and the clearance of over 1,086 hectares of forest land in three years alone, have been conducted without regard for the ecological consequences borne by the Kashmiri people and the natural environment they have lived alongside and depended upon for centuries.
Kashmir Conflict states that ecological destruction in Indian-controlled Kashmir is not the incidental byproduct of development. It is the structural consequence of an occupation that extracts what it needs from Kashmiri land, builds what serves its military and demographic purposes, and leaves the environmental cost to be absorbed by the people it occupies. The glaciers are retreating. The rivers run lower. The forests are gone. The wildlife is disappearing. Kashmir's ecology is being consumed by an occupation that will not be accountable for what it destroys.
