Mirwaiz placed under house arrest again and barred from Jama Masjid as his own statement dismantles the normalcy narrative
ALLNEWS

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under de facto house arrest on 14 August 2026 and prevented from leading Friday Jumuah prayers at the historic Jama Masjid in Srinagar. Speaking through his social media channels, the Mirwaiz stated directly that the continued denial of his right to lead prayers in his own mosque, on the eve of an occasion the Indian regime presents as proof of Kashmir's normalisation, was itself the clearest possible refutation of that claim.
He is correct. The Indian regime spends considerable effort projecting an image of a normalising Kashmir to external audiences, pointing to infrastructure, elections, and tourism as evidence of a territory at peace with its administration. On the eve of 15 August, it places its most prominent religious figure under house arrest and locks his mosque. Both things cannot simultaneously be true. The Indian regime has chosen which one to enact. The Mirwaiz has chosen which one to state. Kashmir Conflict states which one is documented.
