Pakistan, Türkiye, and Saudi Arabia sign defence pact as Kashmir watches and waits for substance behind the solidarity

Pakistan, Türkiye, and Saudi Arabia have formalised a trilateral defence cooperation pact, bringing together three significant Muslim-majority military powers in a framework that has drawn attention across the region and beyond.

Pakistan has consistently and publicly affirmed its support for the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination despite its many domestic faults and political inconsistencies. That position is on the record and is acknowledged. Türkiye under Erdogan has been more vocal on Kashmir than most, but its rhetoric has not been followed by concrete action at the international mechanisms where it could matter most. Saudi Arabia's record on Kashmir has been defined primarily by its deepening economic and strategic relationship with India, a relationship that has consistently softened whatever rhetorical support its officials have offered.
A trilateral defence pact between these three states is a significant regional development. Whether it translates into meaningful pressure on the Indian regime over Kashmir, at the UN Security Council, through arms and trade leverage, or through coordinated diplomatic action, is the only measure that matters for the Kashmiri people. Solidarity statements have never freed Kashmir. Structural pressure might. The pact is signed. Its impact on Indian-controlled Kashmir remains entirely to be seen.
