National Conference MP Ruhullah Mehdi has publicly accused his own party of normalising the BJP's post-August 2019 agenda and diluting its stated commitment to the restoration of Article 370, intensifying a pattern of internal NC conflict that has seen him repeatedly and publicly challenge the party's direction since the government took office.

Ruhullah Mehdi has now attacked the NC from within on multiple occasions in 2026, accusing it variously of toeing the BJP line, abandoning the mandate it was elected on, and now normalising the very agenda it was elected to oppose. His criticisms are, on their face, accurate. The NC was elected on a platform of restoring Article 370 and fighting the Indian regime's post-2019 restructuring. It has governed within that restructuring without meaningfully challenging any of it.

Kashmir Conflict states what this cycle of internal conflict represents. These are not principled dissenters challenging an occupation. They are collaborators quarrelling over how visibly they collaborate. The NC's existence as a governing party depends on the Indian regime's permission to function. Ruhullah Mehdi's public criticism of his own party does not challenge that dependence. It performs discomfort with it while remaining entirely within its constraints. The NC will not restore Article 370. Ruhullah Mehdi knows this. His statements produce headlines. The BJP's post-2019 agenda proceeds regardless.
