Sikh federations, minority organisations, and Kashmiri political figures call for Black Day on 5 August as Indian regime tightens restrictions

The Federation of Sikh Organisations, the Democratic Organisation of Minority Aspirations, and multiple other minority and civil society groups have called for the observance of 5 August 2026 as a Black Day, marking six years since the Indian regime's abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A and the full annexation of Kashmir. Several of the Indian regime's own installed political figures in Indian-controlled Kashmir have joined the call, demanding the restoration of statehood and constitutional rights.
The Indian regime has responded to the planned shutdown and commemorations with intensified security deployments, heightened checkpoints, and the standard pre-emptive restrictions it imposes across Indian-controlled Kashmir whenever the population attempts to mark a date it does not want marked.
That minority organisations, Sikh federations, and even the Indian regime's own installed political parties are calling 5 August a Black Day tells its own story. The Indian regime stripped Kashmir of its autonomy and presented it to the world as a moment of national integration. Six years later, the day is being marked as a day of loss by communities across the political and religious spectrum. The occupation's self-congratulation has not aged well.
