Sonam Wangchuk complains of mistreatment as Indians who cheered him fall silent on Kashmir's decades of documented abuse

Sonam Wangchuk has stated that he was harassed during his transfer from Safdarjung Hospital to Medanta following his forcible removal from his hunger strike by Indian regime authorities. His supporters across India have responded with predictable outrage.
Kashmir Conflict notes the contrast that outrage produces. Wangchuk became an Indian cultural phenomenon. Millions mobilised around his campaigns. Progressive, left-leaning, and liberal Indians claimed him as a symbol of principled resistance to the Indian state. Those same individuals, with vanishingly few exceptions, have remained silent or actively complicit in the Indian regime's mass imprisonment, home demolitions, religious suppression, demographic engineering, extrajudicial killings, and cultural erasure across Indian-controlled Kashmir for decades.
The Indian progressive conscience activates when one of its own is inconvenienced by the state. It sleeps through the occupation of an entire people. Wangchuk was harassed during a hospital transfer. Kashmiris have been blinded, imprisoned for decades, had their homes blown up and destroyed, sometimes multiple times over, and watched their children disappear. The selective outrage is not progressive. It is the Indian liberal's version of the same exceptionalism that drives the occupation itself: what happens to us matters; what we do to them does not.
