US Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs Sergio Gor is scheduled to visit the Kashmir Valley on 19 August 2026, marking his first official visit to Indian-controlled Kashmir. He is expected to meet unelected Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and installed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Gor previously visited India's Western Command alongside US Indo-Pacific Commander Admiral Samuel Paparo, where discussions included security matters concerning Kashmir and India's western frontier. He also recently met Home Minister Amit Shah for talks covering bilateral counterterrorism and counter-narcotics cooperation.

The ULC has issued a statement questioning the true purpose of the visit. The organisation points to a documented India-Israel joint military project in the Yousmarg area of Kashmir and raises the possibility that the US visit may be connected to this project or to the broader India-US-Israel security framework now operating, to varying degrees, across Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Kashmir Conflict states these concerns warrant serious examination. The US alleges its regional engagement serves security and stability. A visit to a disputed, occupied territory in which the US's closest regional partners are conducting documented joint military operations, without any consultation with or representation of the Kashmiri people, serves neither. If the Yousmarg project involves US-linked interests, Pakistan and China have legitimate grounds to demand transparency. An occupied people's land is not a space where foreign powers conduct military projects by invitation of the occupier without consequence for the question of sovereignty that remains unresolved.
