A Village Defence Guard member opened fire on two fellow VDG members in the Moungri area of Udhampur district following an argument, killing one and injuring another. The shooter has been taken into custody. An investigation is underway.

Kashmir Conflict notes the significance of this incident beyond its immediate facts. The Indian regime has spent years expanding, arming, and training the VDG network across Indian-controlled Kashmir, equipping its members with self-loading rifles and automatic weapons and deploying them across districts where the resistance is active, presenting them as a civilian self-defence force. What the Moungri incident confirms is that an armed network with minimal oversight, deployed in an environment of sustained tension and grievance, is not stable. These are men the Indian regime has placed weapons into the hands of and sent into Kashmiri communities as an extension of the occupation's control apparatus. When they turn those weapons on each other, it is not an aberration. It is the predictable consequence of what the Indian regime has built.
