A bus carrying Amarnath Yatra pilgrims caught fire in the Ramban district on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Passengers evacuated the vehicle. Casualties have not been confirmed at the time of reporting. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The incident is the latest in a series of accidents, vehicle fires, and road incidents involving Yatra pilgrim transport across the season. The NH-44 Ramban stretch is one of the most accident-prone sections of the entire route, carrying a vastly increased volume of pilgrim convoys on top of existing military and civilian traffic across terrain that places severe demands on vehicles and drivers. The Indian regime has invested an unprecedented security apparatus into the Yatra this season. The road conditions, vehicle standards, and driver welfare of those moving hundreds of thousands of pilgrims through mountain terrain have received no comparable attention. The fire in Ramban is a consequence of that imbalance.
