Zaira Wasim calls out Waqf Board's role in Independence Day dancing as Indian regime's Hinduisation of Kashmiri Islamic institutions is laid bare

Former Kashmiri actress Zaira Wasim, who left Bollywood in 2019 stating her career was incompatible with her Islamic faith, publicly questioned the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board's involvement in 15 August Independence Day celebrations at a Kashmir school, where young Kashmiri girls were made to perform on stage. Wasim, writing on X, asked how an organisation constitutionally mandated to serve the Muslim community and uphold Islamic values could associate itself with such an event, describing the contradiction as almost comical.
The APHC has gone further, stating that BJP leader and Waqf Board head Darakhshan Andrabi orchestrated the use of Kashmiri schoolgirls in Indian Independence Day performances, describing it as an attack on Kashmiri Islamic culture and a direct bid to Hinduise the territory's identity.
The JK Waqf Board was once a genuinely independent Islamic institution overseeing religious endowments and serving the Muslim community. Since 2019, it has come under the operational control of the Indian regime's BJP-aligned appointees. What was a religious body now facilitates activities explicitly contrary to Islamic values, under a board chair with documented BJP affiliations, at events celebrating the anniversary of an occupation the Kashmiri Muslim majority has never accepted. Zaira Wasim asked the right question. The answer is not complicated: the Waqf Board no longer serves the Kashmiri Muslim community. It serves the Indian regime's project of Indianising and Hinduising Kashmir's identity from within its own institutions.
